Why I Do What I Do

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults."-F. Douglass

This is my why.
Why I do what I do and why I'm so passionate about supporting the healthy development of babies, toddlers and young children.

Originally, with my interest in psychology and love for helping others, I thought I wanted to support other young adults to work through and gain insight from earlier experiences and relationships that have caused them hurt, struggle and harm. I related to that and understood the value in it. But then, thanks to a temp job that has turned into my 17-year long career with a single organization, I realized that it's SO much easier and makes SO much more sense to:

*help children and their parents/caregivers get a strong start from day 1
*build strong children and knowledgeable parents

*help them develop healthy relationships with each other and others.

Maybe we could cut down on the number of adults who needed to work through 'crappy childhoods' (for lack of a better way to say it) by preventing it all together!
This made me feel alive, excited, with purpose and that I could make a difference.
Since then, I've continued learning and growing everyday from experts, my own experiences, getting my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and focusing on work with parents and their children ages birth to five.

I've provided individual and group counseling to parents, to children in preschool settings, parent education classes, I've done in-home counseling with pregnant women and moms suffering from depression and other disorders, I've provided trainings to professionals who work with young children and parents...all with the hope and goal of helping more children have a safe and healthy childhood from which they don't have to recover.
This is my why. This is my passion.
